Close-up view of three overlapping sheets, two black and one transparent, arranged in a vertical pattern. The texture and light reflection on the transparent sheet are visible, while the black sheets appear solid and opaque under LED lighting. The background is plain white.
A blue circle is filled with evenly spaced horizontal black lines, creating a striped pattern reminiscent of LED modules. The lines make the blue color appear as alternating light and dark blue horizontal stripes within the circle against a white background.

P22R - Phase change

Thermally conductive phase change

P22R is a reusable phase change material (PCM). It is specifically made for rework ability and ease of testing. It has a composite construction of high performance PCM and a special malleable metal alloy.

P22R starts to soften and flow at 50 °C, reducing thermal resistance by filling the microscopic irregularities of the thermal solution.

Thal Article Number: P22R

Overview

P22R - Phase change

No thermal performance degradation is shown after 500 cycles from  -25°C to 125°C, or after 1000 hours @130 °C. The PCM softens and does not fully change state, which causes minimal migration (pump-out) at operating temperatures. P22R is available in three different thicknesses: 0.125 mm, 0.25 mm and 0.5 mm.

Some of the benefits and features of P22R are the low thermal resistance at low pressures and the fact that it is reusable, which makes it possible to make and break many thermal interface connections. It is also naturally tacky at room temperature, so there is no adhesive required. Lastly, it does not require any heat sink preheating.

Some possible applications for the PCM: computer servers, notebook and desktop PCs, thermal test stands and high frequency microprocessors.
