Bright LED Solutions - Case Study

A challenging project: a fast charger for buses and trucks

The collaboration between Thal Technologies and Bright LED Solutions is a story of shared values, technical expertise, and mutual trust that has resulted in innovative solutions within the LED industry.

Background of Bright LED Solutions

Who is Bright LED Solutions?

Bright LED Solutions, founded by Armand Perduijn in 2007, distinguishes itself through customized solutions in LED technology. Armand’s extensive experience in the LED industry began in the late 1990s at Lumiled, where he was employee number seven during the company’s startup phase. After spending many years in Malaysia, a hotspot for LED manufacturing, he returned to the Netherlands in 2005. With profound knowledge of LED production and optics, he decided to start his own company focused on custom-made LED solutions.

The name “Bright” reflects both the brilliance of their products and the innovative ideas the company generates. Starting in a small office, Bright LED Solutions now operates its own production facilities, including five injection molding machines, a tool shop, and extensive expertise in optics and lens production.

LIGHTING MODULE FOR CHARGING STATIONS

Lighting module for charging stations

The new project focuses on developing a lighting module for a fast charger for buses and trucks. This module, installed on the charging station, must clearly display the charging status from a considerable distance, even in bright sunlight. This requires precise light distribution, leveraging Bright LED Solutions’ expertise in LED optics.

The challenge lies in the client’s agile approach, where specifications can change during development without shifting the deadline. Despite these dynamic circumstances, Thal and Bright work closely to deliver a reliable and high-quality final product.

Armand explains: “The client wanted a light strip around the charging station that would clearly show the charging status from at least 50 meters away, even in full sunlight. It’s a challenge you wouldn’t think about at first but requires significant attention during development.”

Transparency works both ways. I tell Thal exactly what I do and deliver at what cost. That trust is crucial, especially in this time of technical staff shortages. This way, we can maintain momentum and work efficiently.

Deep trust and transparency

The solution

During the development of the lighting module, several challenges emerged. For instance, the module needed to be highly visible in bright sunlight, requiring specific knowledge of light frequencies and the sensitivity of the human eye. Armand’s experience developing traffic lights for the U.S. market proved invaluable here. Additionally, the client’s agile approach necessitated continuous design adjustments, such as changing the light intensity and the module’s form factor. Thanks to the joint efforts and shared responsibility with Thal, these challenges were effectively addressed.

Armand adds: “During development, it turned out that the charging cable was too heavy, necessitating an additional swivel arm. This required another design adjustment. But we quickly returned to the drawing board to ensure the product still met all requirements.”

The collaboration between Thal Technologies and Bright LED Solutions is characterized by deep trust and transparency. Armand emphasizes that swift action and open communication are essential for the success of their projects. Both companies work with a ballpark estimate, openly discussing costs and final quotes. This honest and transparent approach allows them to focus on delivering high-quality products without delays.
