The history of Thal
Establishment of Universal Science BV, a Division of Universal Science Ltd in the UK.
Director and major shareholder, entrepreneur Ad Musters, initiates operations from his home office (refer to photo). Universal Science BV is the official distributor for two prominent American manufacturers in the thermal management industry. These include Thermagon Inc, known for their thermal conductive interface materials, and Advanced Thermal Solutions Inc, which specializes in heatsinks and measurement equipment for thermal and flow analyses.
Our initial clientele comprises esteemed organizations such as Thales Netherlands BV, Barco NV, Lucent Technologies GmbH, Technolution BV, Orga BV, and Deltour BV.
First Participation at Light & Building Frankfurt with the slogan “Cooling Electronics by Design.”
This marked the beginning of many subsequent participations at the Light & Building trade fair, held biennially. Each event has continued to showcase our innovative solutions in electronic cooling.
LED Conference Brussels: Beginning of Partnership with Lumileds and Future Lighting Solutions as a Certified Solution Partner
We also started serving as a supplier of Metal Core PCBs, specifically designed for power LED cooling. This period marked the initiation of our first LED assembly projects using Luxeon I and Luxeon III.
First Office: Huizermaatweg in Huizen
Our first official workspace was located at Huizermaatweg in Huizen, a milestone that marked a significant leap forward for our organization. This office not only served as our operational headquarters but also symbolized our transition from a home-based business to a professional corporate setting.
Relocation to a New, Larger Facility: Rokerijweg in Huizen
To accommodate our growing production needs, we relocated to a larger premises at Rokerijweg in Huizen. This move was strategically planned to enhance our manufacturing capabilities, particularly in the converting of Thermal Interface Materials and the semi-automatic production of LED modules using metal core Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs). The new facility is specifically designed to streamline our operations and increase our production efficiency. With more space and better-equipped production lines, we are set to meet the increasing demands of our clients and maintain our commitment to quality and innovation in all our products. This relocation not only signifies our growth but also strengthens our capacity to lead and innovate in the industry.
2006 Milestone: Achieving Certification in the Osram Opto Semiconductors LedLight4you Program
In 2006, we reached a significant milestone by becoming a certified member of the Osram Opto Semiconductors LedLight4you program. This prestigious certification marked a pivotal moment in our journey, underscoring our dedication to upholding the highest standards in LED technology. Aligning with Osram Opto Semiconductors, a leader in the industry, this achievement enhanced our capabilities and reputation, providing us with advanced resources and collaborative opportunities to innovate and excel in delivering top-tier LED solutions. May 2008: Launch of Our First Fully Automatic SMD Production Line
In May 2008, we achieved a major technological advancement by launching our first fully automatic Surface-Mount Device (SMD) production line, complete with a reflow oven specifically designed for LED production. This state-of-the-art production line was outfitted to handle high-performance LEDs, including the Luxeon K2 and Osram Dragon LEDs.
Thal Technologies Secures Place in Cree LED's Solution Partner Program
Thal Technologies received official certification from Cree LED, marking a significant milestone as it joined the esteemed ranks of their Solution Partner Program. This recognition underscored Thal Technologies' commitment to excellence and innovation in the LED solutions field, paving the way for future collaborations and advancements in lighting technology.
Transformation and Progress: Thal Technologies' Origins and Renaming
In September 2015, a pivotal management buy-out led to the renaming of Universal Science to Thal Technologies. This strategic move marked a significant transformation in the company's history, positioning Thal Technologies for a new era of innovation and growth in the technology sector.
Expansion and Enhancement: Thal Technologies' Strategic Relocation
Thal Technologies relocated to a new combined office and factory space located on Grindzuigerstraat in Almere. This facility is equipped with five SMD production lines, enhancing our manufacturing capabilities and streamlining operations. This strategic move further solidifies our position as a leader in the technology sector.
Thal Technologies Launches New Production Line for 1.5 Meter Long Circuit Boards
In April 2016, Thal Technologies significantly expanded its manufacturing capabilities by inaugurating a new production line specifically designed for circuit boards up to 1.5 meters in length. This enhancement allowed Thal to accommodate larger and more complex designs, meeting the increasing demands of various industries for extensive and intricate electronic components. This strategic upgrade not only increased Thal's production capacity but also enhanced its ability to innovate and deliver high-quality, tailored solutions to its customers.

Ronald brings extensive experience from his previous roles, including his tenure as Director at Rodin Group, a provider of internet and FttH access solutions, and his time at Strict, an international interim/consultancy organization specializing in ICT and telecommunications. With his proven track record in the industry, Ronald's appointment signifies a strategic move to drive Thal Technologies forward in its mission of innovation and growth.

In July 2022, Thal Technologies initiated a special campaign to honor Dutch thermal engineers for their indispensable contributions to the field.
